Blog 89. Keep Ranks עדר ערך

Blog 90. A Message at Passover/Pesach
Blog 88. Hitpael/Hithpael Investigation

In the pondering of בין (in 1 Chronicles 12:32, from Hirsch, The Chumash on Gn49:14-15??) – I was working on an entry for Pesach/Passover, but the work week didn’t allow me to complete on time. Then I was led here.

BHS 1 Chronicles 12:32-33

  • The Tanakh that I have has the verse numbering as BHS, with יוֹדְעֵ֤י בִינָה֙ לַֽעִתִּ֔ים in verse 33. I do not know what Tanakh Hirsch might have been using, if numbering was different, or if this is simply a typo. Would he be using the numbering as in our English translations?

🤔 and of course, Shlomo/Solomon is always very creative in his writing

The following are used in parallel in verses 1 Chronicles 12:23-38 (please read the entire passage):

▸ h5737. עָדַר ‘âḏar + h4634. מַעֲרָכָה ma‘ărâḵâ

▸ h4421. מִלְחָמָה milḥâmâ + h6186. עָרַךְ ‘âraḵ

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

  • Please take note these roots explain SO much of what we have been taught about how Scripture is interpreted, Hebrew poetry set up in parallels, parallel structures, chiastic structures, what is said/what is not said. And how very interesting (“coincidence” – HAH!) that it comes out in this passage of so many parallels helping with discernment. 😳 It covers much of what was laid out in the Dissertation part of the website.

And just so everyone will know we are still pointing out Tabernacle connections

⦁ Exodus 40:22-23

22 He put the table in the tabernacle of meeting, on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil; 23 and he set the bread (h3899. לֶחֶם leḥem) in order (;h6186. עָרַךְ‘âraḵ) upon it before the LORD, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

(Really should read through verse 33.)

  • I am fairly certain I have shared before here the way that God speaks to me, but I could not tell you in which entry. So, I will repeat it here, as it fits perfectly. How the LORD speaks to me is in reading his word, Scripture, as a witness to me in parallel with my daily life, my “struggle for existence.” It is by way of reading God’s word that I am able to get his perspective on what is happening in my life. The Hebrew language is so very different from the language with which I grew up, and it is so very flexible that it allows God to speak to each person individually in her or his own life/struggle for existence. I cannot encourage you enough to read as you live. Our English translations have many shortcomings because they are influenced by mankind’s assumptions and traditions, each one pointing to his or her (or a committee’s) own way. But God is big enough to use our filters and still get through to us. But that is why I long ago encouraged you to read in multiple versions of the Bible, so you are able to see the filters that mankind places on God’s word. Multiple Witnesses establish the truth. Do not focus on one of mankind’s ways of looking at things. God uses all ways. God is אחד One.

Deuteronomy 8:3

3 So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread (על-הלחם) alone; but man lives by עלכלמוצא from the mouth of the LORD.

  • This deserves a separate study on its own. For now know that, though you are used to hearing the word “word” in this verse, “word” is an added word. We will also need to discuss מצא as a messiah/journey cognate and the various ways עלis used.

And these two roots together indicate what we have been teaching here on LogAndSpeck since focusing mostly on the techniques in the Etymological Dictionary of Biblical Hebrew. Note the idea of permutations here. Free the Hebrew letters from where they are “moored” in a word, mobilize it and add it back in to the assembled body, the other letters combined, and get a new witness, a new perspective.

  • And, by the way, for those unfamiliar, in the phrase “the LORD of hosts,” host is from צבא.

Learning how to take something apart and rearrange it (such as we have done with cognate permutations חלץ צבא) also allows us/lets us know how to make new words and see connections we have not previously seen. We are able to be more “creative” in our knowledge.

I also want to say that this is not the first time I have “sensed” that there are instructions within the text itself for how to interpret the text. The first time was when I looked at Exodus 34:6-7, which we have not yet fully explored, and the next time was when we were doing the study on Trees (there were several entries on that).

  • And I want to remind any new readers, there is MUCH background to get to this point.  We are not saying that what is being shared here is the only message – you may need to go back to look up the discussion of levels of meaning, PaRDeS. See Post 12. Levels of Meaning to begin. Also, if you search for PaRDeS, you’ll see there have been a few other entries on the topic.

עת

  • When we get to the two-letter words, then there are several possible letters that might be “moored” there, which means opening our perspective even a bit more. God’s word is definitely a means of opening our eyes and our minds, but it only works if we allow it to. Remember, God is about free will. His way is not forced upon us. All of these perspectives on עת should be kept in mind, as you read through.

① viewing a moment in time – recall our struggle for existence is in time

⦁ Genesis 18:10-12

10 And He said, “I will certainly return to you according to the time (h6256. עֵת ‘êṯ) of life, and behold, Sarah your wife shall have a son.”

(Sarah was listening in the tent door which was behind him.) 11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age; and Sarah had passed the age of childbearing. 12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, “After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?”

And He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness.

9(10H) The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed,

A refuge in times (h6256. עֵת ‘êṯ) of trouble.

10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You;

For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

Psalms 9:10

② making ready

⦁ Leviticus 16:20-22  – Tabernacle connection

20 “And when he has made an end of atoning for the Holy Place, the tabernacle of meeting, and the altar, he shall bring the live goat. 21 Aaron shall lay both his hands on the head of the live goat, confess over it all the iniquities of the children of Israel, and all their transgressions, concerning all their sins (h2403. חַטָּאָה ḥaṭâ’â), putting them on the head of the goat, and shall send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a suitable (h6261. עִתִּי ‘iṯiy) man. 22 The goat shall bear on itself all their iniquities to an uninhabited land; and he shall release the goat in the wilderness.

③ destiny

⦁ Psalms 31:14-16

14 But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD;

I say, “You are my God.”

15 My times (h6256. עֵת ‘êṯ) are in Your hand;

Deliver me from the hand of my enemies,

And from those who persecute me.

16 Make Your face shine upon Your servant;

Save me for Your mercies’ sake.

||  ||  note both verses 16H and 17H are “also” verses

⦁ Psalms 81:13-16

13 “Oh, that My people would listen to Me,

That Israel would walk in My ways!

14 I would soon subdue their enemies,

And turn My hand against their adversaries.

15(16H) The haters of the LORD would pretend submission to Him,

But their fate (h6256. עֵת ‘êṯ) would endure forever.

16(17H) He would have fed them also with the finest of wheat (h2406. חִטָּה ḥiṭâ);

And with honey from the rock I would have satisfied you.”

  • h2403 and h2406 in the readings above are both from this root. If you think of bread as from wheat and bread is the struggle for existence, our very struggles tend to remove us from the source of life, which is the LORD. The only way to stay connected, not be “removed,” is to read God’s word to make certain we are looking at things from God’s perspective.

④ now

⦁ Isaiah 29:18-22

18 In that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book,

And the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity and out of darkness.

19 The humble also shall increase their joy in the LORD,

And the poor among men shall rejoice

In the Holy One of Israel.

20 For the terrible one is brought to nothing,

The scornful one is consumed,

And all who watch for iniquity are cut off—

21 Who make a man an offender by a word,

And lay a snare for him who reproves in the gate,

And turn aside the just by empty words.

22 Therefore thus says the LORD, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob:

“Jacob shall not now (h6258. עַתָּה ‘aṯâ) be ashamed,

Nor shall his face now grow pale;

  • note עתה is not a root, but would fit with numerous cognates in (A57) retain/relinquish. Something along the lines of Jacob not retaining shame.

⑤ right time

⦁ Isaiah 50:4

4 “The Lord GOD has given Me

The tongue of the learned,

That I should know how to speak

A word in season (לָע֥וּת) to him who is weary.

He awakens Me morning by morning,

79 Let those who fear You turn to me,

Those who know Your testimonies.

80 Let my heart be blameless regarding Your statutes,

② making crooked

⦁ Ecclesiastes 12:1-3

1 Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth,

Before the difficult days come,

And the years draw near when you say,

“I have no pleasure in them”:

3 In the day when the keepers of the house tremble,

And the strong men {bow down} (h5791. עָוַת ‘âwaṯ);

When the grinders cease because they are few,

And those that look through the windows grow dim;

  • I have made my suggestion here with an  .

And please see the “dubious” notation in Strongs and the definitions given by EDBH and BDB. Please do not think I am pointing a finger at ESV here, as I frequently use it. I have also looked at Darby, Young’s, LITV, NASB, NLT, NIV, and NRSV. The are all pretty much the same as ESV. They have tended to follow Strongs “dubious” notation that עות was substituted for עוש. I ask you to read the entire context in the King James below, and make some sense of the passage yourself. Then I will give you my two cents’ worth.

My two cents:

Down through verse five the passage is talking about strong words, that the word of the LORD rebukes to dry up the sea and makes rivers a wilderness/dry place, the LORD brings the black clouds in the heavens. Continuing in that vein, the one speaking has had his ears opened and did not rebel against what he was hearing, but took it in. He is saying he is speaking the words that the LORD has shown him and not shying away from sharing, even though it angers those against whom he speaks, even though they have the power to smite him. He does this because the LORD stands with him, just as David with Goliath, and just as in 2 Kings 6:16 So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are greater than those who are with them.” This is one who speaks with a sharp tongue because he knows that he is speaking the words of the LORD, and the LORD has got him covered..

Just two further words, weary is אֶת־יָעֵ֖ף, and BDB lists יעף as an adjective, so it is necessary to add for English, with this את “marker of direct object,” “ones,” so either “weary ones” or “ones who are weary.”

Secondly the meaning of the root for יעף, here translated as weary, to 🤔. I could give you my perspective, but I’ll let you 🤔.

||

⦁ Genesis 21:30-31

30 And he said, “You will take these seven ewe lambs from my hand, that they may be my witness (h5713. עֵדָה ‘êḏâ) that I have dug this well.”

31 Therefore he called that place Beersheba (h0884. בְּאֵר שֶׁבַע ḇe’êr šeḇa‘), because the two of them swore an oath there.   — a payment, a sacrifice

This transaction between Abimelech and Abraham is a payment/sacrifice and an acceptance of the payment/sacrifice. It is a covenant, an oath before God (read the context Gn21 verses 22-34), which clarifies the understanding between them, submitted to God, complete (no backing out of it). Both parties are then bound by it. Before God, complete, means no strings attached. “Paid in full.”

  • You now need to 🤔 how this “witness” parallels “speaking in season,” under the subheading of ”dissuading.” When you make such an agreement with anyone are you “dissuading them,” warning them that this is a binding covenant? There are two other passages that readily come to mind dealing with this concept, that you should read, some “bargaining” that takes place. Read Genesis chapter 23 and 2 Samuel chapter 24. You take away from this discussion how it applies in your life.

and consider

breaking

⦁ Job 4:10

10 The roaring of the lion,

The voice of the fierce lion,

And the teeth of the young lions are broken (h5421. נָתַע nâṯa‘).

  • As you have gotten to the end of בין + עת, perhaps you have seen something like penetrating to the core of something for the purpose of discernment, getting at the real meaning.

And all of the parallels help you understand even better. So now, we have to make two more points. The first is going back to the subtitle of the Log and Speck website, “Tools for Understanding the Revelation of Life in Scripture.” I hope you are learning a great deal from the website, as it was my purpose. However, realize that much of what I am sharing is in “real time,” that is just recently shown to me. Realize that I am a relative novice at this, whereas our brothers and sisters of the Jewish faith have been at it for thousands of years. They are very, very important to life on this planet, life with God.

Zechariah 8:23

23 “Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.”‘”

You really should be friends with Jewish people. You can learn a lot.

The second point that I want you to see his how all these parallels work with one small exercise.Taking words apart into pieces, rearranging, looking at them in creative ways in order to better understand, is the purpose here, to understand the revelation of life in Scripture. We will be using the cognate permutation concept we have been discussing. I have some mixed feelings about what I am sharing here because I share what I have been shown thus far, but I know there is so much more to be understood and known. So, please know this may only be a piece that is shared. It is at this point in time a perspective.

⦁ Genesis 1:27

27 So God created man in His (own) image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

⦁ Genesis 1:27

27 So God created man in His (own) image; in the image of God He created him; male (h2145. זָכָר zâḵâr) and female (h5347. נְקֵבָה neqêḇâ) He created them.

  •  Don’t worry, ware not fully dissecting this verse, only making a couple of points.

First, the attributes here called male and female are both in God. Apparently God chose to separate them in mankind, but God is אחד, One, and both are in him.

Please see the composite diffusion tensor image and discussion of male and female brains in Post 06. Bible Translations. You can search for “brain” to lead you there pretty quickly.

The exercise is to see/discern/recognize, take apart and put back together two cognate permutations, remembering they are from this concept of “homorganic consonants,”

With this restriction:

Recognize that Yod י and Qoph ק are homorganic consonants together as Palatals. Rearranging into cognate permutations and recognizing, “keeping ranks,” discerning, see that the following two roots are cognate permutations. Consider how that may be of help in life.
