① being pure
Psalms 51:3-4
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions,
And my sin is always before me.
4(6H) Against You, You only, have I sinned,
And done this evil in Your sight—
That You may be found just when You speak,
And blameless (h2135. זָכָה zâḵâ) when You judge.
② being righteous and worthy
Job 15:14-16 of Eliphaz the Temanite
14 “What is man, that he could be pure (h2135. זָכָה zâḵâ)?
And he who is born of a woman, that he could be righteous?
15 If God puts no trust in His saints,
And the heavens are not pure in His sight,
16 How much less man, who is abominable and filthy,
Who drinks iniquity like water!

① sparking
Isaiah 50:10-11
10 “Who among you fears the LORD?
Who obeys the voice of His Servant?
Who walks in darkness
And has no light?
Let him trust in the name of the LORD
And rely upon his God.
11 Look, all you who kindle a fire,
Who encircle (yourselves) with sparks (h2131. זִיקָה ziyqâ):
Walk in the light of your fire and in the sparks (h2131. זִיקָה ziyqâ) you have kindled—
This you shall have from My hand:
You shall lie down in torment.

① seer
Genesis 11:27-30
27 This is the genealogy of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran begot Lot. 28 And Haran died before his father Terah in his native land, in Ur of the Chaldeans. 29 Then Abram and Nahor took wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah(h3252. יִסְכָּה iysḵâ). 30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
Strongs h3252. יִסְכָּה iysḵâ; from an unused root meaning to watch; observant; Jiskah, sister of Lot: — Iscah.
AV (1) – Iscah 1; Iscah = “one who looks forth”
daughter of Haran, niece of Abraham, sister of Lot and Milcah
It is a curious reference. There is a separate investigation of סכה which will allow further understanding. That entry should be coming soon, LORD (יהוה) willing.

E11 above is a typo in the book – should be E17 (or a possible “flag” as mentioned previously – perhaps leading one to review E11••• not clear)
① being nomadic
Psalms 74:14-15
14 You broke the heads of Leviathan in pieces,
And gave him as food to the people inhabiting the wilderness (h6728. צִיִּי ṣîyiy).
15 You broke open the fountain and the flood;
You dried up mighty rivers.

Numbers 24:23-24
23 Then he took up his oracle and said:
“Alas! Who shall live when God does this?
24 But ships shall come from the coasts of Cyprus,
And they shall afflict Asshur and afflict Eber,
And so shall he (of Amalek), until he perishes.”
② being desolate
Psalms 78:16-17
16 He also brought streams out of the rock,
And caused waters to run down like rivers.
17 But they sinned even more against Him
By rebelling against the Most High in the wilderness (h6723. צִיָּה ṣîyâ).
③ marking; noting
Jeremiah 31:21-22 (in BHS it is Jr31:21, not 31:20)
21 “Set up signposts (h6725. צִיוּן ṣîyûn),
Make landmarks;
Set your heart toward the highway,
The way in which you went.
Turn back, O virgin of Israel,
Turn back to these your cities.
22 How long will you gad about,
O you backsliding daughter?
For the LORD has created a new thing in the earth—
A woman shall encompass a man.”
④ Temple site
Isaiah 2:2-4
2 Now it shall come to pass in the latter days
That the mountain of the LORD’s house
Shall be established on the top of the mountains,
And shall be exalted above the hills;
And all nations shall flow to it.
3 Many people shall come and say,
“Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD,
To the house of the God of Jacob;
He will teach us His ways,
And we shall walk in His paths.”
For out of Zion (h6726. צִיּוֹן ṣîyôn) shall go forth the law,
And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
4 He shall judge between the nations,
And rebuke many people;
They shall beat their swords into plowshares,
And their spears into pruning hooks;
Nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
Neither shall they learn war anymore.

Psalms 14
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
1 The fool has said in his heart,
“(There is) no God.”
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.
2 The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
3 They have all turned aside,
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one.
4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge,
Who eat up my people as they eat bread,
And do not call on the LORD?
5 There they are in great fear,
For God (is) with the generation of the righteous.
6 You shame the counsel of the poor,
But the LORD (is) his refuge.
7 Oh, that the salvation of Israel (would come) out of Zion ( מִצִּיּוֹן֮ h6726. צִיּוֹן ṣîyôn)!
When the LORD brings back the captivity of His people,
Let Jacob rejoice (and) Israel be glad.
NKJV footnote says “Lit. Who will give out of Zion the salvation of Israel?”
Here are the ways the extremely common word נתן is translated, from Strongs: AV (2008) – give 1078, put 191, deliver 174, made 107, set 99, up 26, lay 22, grant 21, suffer 18, yield 15, bring 15, cause 13, utter 12, laid 11, send 11, recompense 11, appoint 10, shew 7, misc 167;
And the possibility exists that the מ prefix is not from מן but from מהה – unknown; doubt.
And ציון is the dry/parched place, recalling there are no upper-case letters in Hebrew
Which could be something like “Who makes it that the parched place/the gravestone is the salvation of Israel?” Just a consideration, but somehow it is recorded in Matthew 16, Mark 8&9, and Luke 9&17 knowledge of the necessity of “being desolate,” such wording as “must suffer,” “be rejected,” and “be killed.” The “signpost” is also interesting.
And it could also easily be understood that in our acceptance of our circumstances, our consequences, here in life, therein lies our salvation. (A rather Jewish understanding, paraphrased in denying oneself and taking up one’s cross daily.) An example “to follow.”
In that we look to God in life, is our salvation. We must find God here, and get to know and love God here, in order to be with God eternally. God is God. The hope is that we stop trying to be our own God and let God be our God.
⑤ dry place
Isaiah 25:4-5
4 For You have been a strength to the poor,
A strength to the needy in his distress,
A refuge from the storm,
A shade from the heat;
For the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
5 You will reduce the noise (h7588. שָׁאוֹן šâ’ôn) of aliens,
As heat in a dry place (h6724. צִיוֹן ṣîyôn);
As heat in the shadow of a cloud,
The song of the terrible ones will be diminished.
⑥ monument
2 Kings 23:15-17 of King Josiah
15 Moreover the altar that was at Bethel, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he broke down; and he burned the high place and crushed it to powder, and burned the wooden image. 16 As Josiah turned, he saw the tombs that were there on the mountain. And he sent and took the bones out of the tombs and burned them on the altar, and defiled it according to the word of the LORD which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words. 17 Then he said, “What gravestone (h6725. צִיוּן ṣîyûn) is this that I see?”
So the men of the city told him, “It is the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and proclaimed these things which you have done against the altar of Bethel.”

Psalms 125:1-2
A Song of Ascents.
1 Those who trust in the LORD
Are like Mount Zion (h6726. צִיּוֹן ṣîyôn),

2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the LORD surrounds His people
From this time forth and forever.

① overlooking something
Genesis 43:11-14
11 And their father Israel said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: Take some of the best fruits of the land in your vessels and carry down a present for the man—a little balm and a little honey, spices and myrrh, pistachio nuts and almonds. 12 Take double money in your hand, and take back in your hand the money that was returned in the mouth of your sacks; perhaps it was an oversight (h4870. מִשְׁגֶּה mišg̱e). 13 Take your brother also, and arise, go back to the man. 14 And may God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may release your other brother and Benjamin. Numbers 33:52-56 Note vv.55-56••• in this context, “be thorough!”

You shall inherit according to the tribes of your fathers. 55 But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain (shall be) irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell. 56 Moreover it shall be (that) I will do to you as I thought to do to them.'”
② erring based on misunderstanding
Leviticus 4:13-15
13 ‘Now if the whole congregation of Israel sins unintentionally (h7686. שָׁגָה šâg̱â), and the thing is hidden from the eyes of the assembly, and they have done something against any of the commandments of the LORD in anything which should not be done, and are guilty; 14 when the sin which they have committed becomes known, then the assembly shall offer a young bull for the sin, and bring it before the tabernacle of meeting. 15 And the elders of the congregation shall lay their hands on the head of the bull before the LORD. ⑤ error
Psalms 7:1-5
A Meditation (h7692. שִׁגָּיוֹן šg̱iâyôn) of David, which he sang to the LORD concerning the words of Cush, a Benjamite.
1 O LORD my God, in You I put my trust;
Save me from all those who persecute me;
And deliver me,
2 Lest they tear me like a lion,
Rending me in pieces, while there is none to deliver.
3 O LORD my God, if I have done this:
If there is iniquity in my hands,
4 If I have repaid evil to him who was at peace with me,
Or have plundered my enemy without cause,
5 Let the enemy pursue me and overtake me;
Yes, let him trample my life to the earth,

Numbers 15:22-26
22 If you sin unintentionally (h7686. שָׁגָה šâg̱â), and do not observe all these commandments which the LORD has spoken to Moses— 23 all that the LORD has commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day the LORD gave commandment and onward throughout your generations— 24 then it will be, if it is unintentionally committed, without the knowledge of the congregation, that the whole congregation shall offer one young bull as a burnt offering, as a sweet aroma to the LORD, with its grain offering and its drink offering, according to the ordinance, and one kid of the goats as a sin offering. 25 So the priest shall make atonement for the whole congregation of the children of Israel, and it shall be forgiven them, for it was unintentional; they shall bring their offering, an offering made by fire to the LORD, and their sin offering before the LORD, for their unintended sin. 26 It shall be forgiven the whole congregation of the children of Israel and the stranger who dwells among them, because all the people did it unintentionally.

Psalms 33:13-18
13 The LORD looks (h5027. נָבַט nâḇaṭ) from heaven;

① forgetting
Genesis 40:20-23
20 Now it came to pass on the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants; and he lifted up the head of the chief butler (h8248. שָׁקָה šâqâ) and of the chief baker among his servants. 21 Then he restored the chief butler (h8248. שָׁקָה šâqâ) to his butlership (h4945. מַשְׁקֶה mašqeh) again, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand. 22 But he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them. 23 Yet the chief butler (h8248. שָׁקָה šâqâ) did not remember (h2142. זָכַר zâḵar) Joseph, but forgot (h7911. שָׁכַח šâḵaḥ) him.

Genesis 8:1-14 (for remembered in v.1, NKJV has these connections: Gen. 19:29; Ex. 2:24; 1 Sam. 1:19; Ps. 105:42; 106:4)
1 Then God remembered (h2142. זָכַר zâḵar) Noah, and every living thing, and all the animals that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters subsided. 2 The fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were also stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained. 3 And the waters receded continually from the earth. At the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters decreased. 4 Then the ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat. 5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month. In the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen.
6 So it came to pass, at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made. 7 Then he sent out a raven, which kept going to and fro until the waters had dried up from the earth. 8 He also sent out from himself a dove, to see if the waters had receded from the face of the ground. 9 But the dove found no resting place for the sole of her foot, and she returned into the ark to him, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth. So he put out his hand and took her, and drew her into the ark to himself. 10 And he waited yet another seven days, and again he sent the dove out from the ark. 11 Then the dove came to him in the evening, and behold, a freshly plucked olive leaf was in her mouth; and Noah knew that the waters had receded from the earth. 12 So he waited yet another seven days and sent out the dove, which did not return again to him anymore.
13 And it came to pass in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, that the waters were dried up from the earth; and Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and indeed the surface of the ground was dry. 14 And in the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dried.
A thought for those who are questioning here, though it may appear as distraction or inattention to the person involved, there would indeed be purpose in God’s action/inaction. Time is used to God’s purpose. A parent would know that at times there is purpose to “letting things be” for a time. (Also, recall 2 Peter3:9)

① irrigating
Genesis 2:4-6
4 This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, 5 before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. For the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; 6 but a mist went up from the earth and watered (h8248. שָׁקָה šâqâ) the whole face of the ground.

Leviticus 11:32-34

① sinking down; lessening
Numbers 11:1-3
1 Now when the people complained, it displeased the LORD; for the LORD heard it, and His anger was aroused. So the fire of the LORD burned among them, and consumed some in the outskirts of the camp. 2 Then the people cried out to Moses, and when Moses prayed to the LORD, the fire was quenched (h8257. שָׁקַע šâqa‘). 3 So he called the name of the place Taberah, because the fire of the LORD had burned among them.

For the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; 6 but a mist went up from the earth and watered (h8248. שָׁקָה šâqâ) the whole face of the ground.

② praying; expressing thoughts
Genesis 24:62-65
62 Now Isaac came from the way of Beer Lahai Roi, for he dwelt in the South. 63 And Isaac went out to meditate (h7742. שׂוּחַ śûaḥ) in the field in the evening; and he lifted his eyes and looked, and there, the camels were coming. 64 Then Rebekah lifted her eyes, and when she saw Isaac she dismounted from her camel; 65 for she had said to the servant, “Who is this man walking in the field to meet us?”
The servant said, “It is my master.” So she took a veil and covered herself.

Psalms 55:16-19
16 As for me, I will call upon God,
And the LORD shall save me.
17(18H) Evening and morning and at noon
I will pray (h7878. שִׂיחַ śîyaḥ), and cry aloud,
And He shall hear my voice.
18 He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me,
For there were many against me.
19 God will hear, and afflict them,
Even He who abides from of old.
Selah
Because they do not change,
Therefore they do not fear God.

Psalms 64:1-4
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
1(2H) Hear my voice, O God, in my meditation (h7879. שִׂיחַ śîyaḥ);
Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
2 Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,
3 Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
And bend their bows to shoot their arrows—bitter words,
4 That they may shoot in secret at the blameless;
Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear.
③ deliberating
Psalms 69:13
13 יָשִׂ֣יחוּ בִ֭י יֹ֣שְׁבֵי שָׁ֑עַר וּ֝נְגִינֹ֗ות שׁוֹתֵ֥י שֵׁכָֽר׃
Psalms 69:9-12
9 For zeal for your house has consumed me,
and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen on me.
10 When I wept and humbled my soul with fasting,
it became my reproach.
11 When I made sackcloth my clothing,
I became a byword to them.
12(13H) I am the talk (h7878. שִׂיחַ śîyaḥ) of those who sit in the gate,
and the drunkards make songs about me.
④ spiritual growth
Psalms 102:1-2
A Prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed and pours out his complaint (h7879. שִׂיחַśîyaḥ) before the LORD.
1 Hear my prayer, O LORD,
And let my cry come to You.
2 Do not hide Your face from me in the day of my trouble;
Incline Your ear to me;
In the day that I call, answer me speedily.
⑤ low-growing shrub
Genesis 21:14-16
14 So Abraham rose early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water; and putting it on her shoulder, he gave it and the boy to Hagar, and sent her away. Then she departed and wandered in the Wilderness of Beersheba. 15 And the water in the skin was used up, and she placed the boy under one of the shrubs (h7880. שִׂיחַ śîyaḥ). 16 Then she went and sat down across from him at a distance of about a bowshot; for she said to herself, “Let me not see the death of the boy.” So she sat opposite him, and lifted her voice and wept.

① causing gratitude through symbols and images
Numbers 33:51-56
51 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: When you have crossed the Jordan into the land of Canaan, 52 then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, destroy all their engraved (h4906. מַשְׂכִּית maśḵiyṯ) stones, destroy all their molded(h4541. מַסֵּכָה masêḵâ) images, and demolish all their high places; 53 you shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land and dwell in it, for I have given you the land to possess. 54 And you shall divide the land by lot as an inheritance among your families; to the larger you shall give a larger inheritance, and to the smaller you shall give a smaller inheritance; there everyone’s inheritance shall be whatever falls to him by lot. You shall inherit according to the tribes of your fathers. 55 But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain shall be irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell. 56 Moreover it shall be that I will do to you as I thought to do to them.'”

Psalms 73:4-9
4 For there are no pangs in their death,
But their strength is firm.
5 They are not in trouble as other men,
Nor are they plagued like other men.
6 Therefore pride serves as their necklace;
Violence covers them like a garment.
7 Their eyes bulge with abundance;
They have more than heart could wish (h4906. מַשְׂכִּית maśḵiyṯ).
8 They scoff and speak wickedly concerning oppression;
They speak loftily.
9 They set their mouth against the heavens,
And their tongue walks through the earth.
② sharp mind
Job 38:32-38
32 Can you bring out Mazzaroth in its season?
Or can you guide the Great Bear with its cubs?
33 Do you know the ordinances of the heavens?
Can you set their dominion over the earth?
34 “Can you lift up your voice to the clouds,
That an abundance of water may cover you?
35 Can you send out lightnings, that they may go,
And say to you, ‘Here we are!’?
36 Who has put wisdom in the mind?
Or who has given understanding to the heart (h7907. שֶׂכְוִי śeḵwîy)?
37 Who can number the clouds by wisdom?
Or who can pour out the bottles of heaven,
38 When the dust hardens in clumps,
And the clods cling together?
③ sharp knife
Proverbs 23:1-5
1 When you sit down to eat with a ruler,
Consider carefully what (is) before you;
2 And put a knife (h7915. שַׂכִּין śaḵiyn) to your throat
If you (are) a man given to appetite.
3 Do not desire his delicacies,
For they (are) deceptive food.
4 Do not overwork to be rich;
Because of your own understanding, cease!
5 Will you set your eyes on that which is not?
For (riches) certainly make themselves wings;
They fly away like an eagle (toward) heaven.
