We proceed next with Acts, which was written by the same author as the Gospel of Luke. And again, index verses are in red, referent verses in indigo. You will see that the use of this technique continues extensively throughout Acts and later, into Paul’s writings.
⦁Acts 1:18-22 – of course, speaking of Judas Iscariot (Yehudah from Keriot)
18 (Now this man acquired a field with the reward of his wickedness, and falling headlong he burst open in the middle and all his bowels gushed out. 19 And it became known to all the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, so that the field was called in their own language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.) 20 “For it is written in the Book of Psalms,
“‘May his camp become desolate,
and let there be no one to dwell in it’;
and
“‘Let another take his office.’
21 So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Yeshua went in and out among us, 22 beginning from the baptism of Yochanan until the day when he was taken up from us—one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection.”
▸Psalms 69:19-28
19 You know my reproach,
and my shame and my dishonor;
my foes are all known to you.
20 Reproaches have broken my heart,
so that I am in despair.
I looked for pity, but there was none,
and for comforters, but I found none.
21 They gave me poison for food,
and for my thirst they gave me sour wine to drink.
22 Let their own table before them become a snare;
and when they are at peace, let it become a trap.
23 Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see,
and make their loins tremble continually.
24 Pour out your indignation upon them,
and let your burning anger overtake them.
25 May their camp be a desolation;
let no one dwell in their tents.
26 For they persecute him whom you have struck down,
and they recount the pain of those you have wounded.
27 Add to them punishment upon punishment;
may they have no acquittal from you.
28 Let them be blotted out of the book of the living;
let them not be enrolled among the righteous.
▸Psalms 109:1-15
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
1 Be not silent, O God of my praise!
2 For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me,
speaking against me with lying tongues.
3 They encircle me with words of hate,
and attack me without cause.
4 In return for my love they accuse me,
but I give myself to prayer.
5 So they reward me evil for good,
and hatred for my love.
6 Appoint a wicked man against him;
let an accuser stand at his right hand.
7 When he is tried, let him come forth guilty;
let his prayer be counted as sin!
8 May his days be few;
may another take his office!
9 May his children be fatherless
and his wife a widow!
10 May his children wander about and beg,
seeking food far from the ruins they inhabit!
11 May the creditor seize all that he has;
may strangers plunder the fruits of his toil!
12 Let there be none to extend kindness to him,
nor any to pity his fatherless children!
13 May his posterity be cut off;
may his name be blotted out in the second generation!
14 May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord,
and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out!
15 Let them be before YHWH continually,
that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth!
Next is one passage of eleven index verses that has very extensive referent verses, such that this will be the only other detailed example in Acts. The remainder will be a listing of the index context and the referent context.
⦁Acts 7:42-53
42 But God turned away and gave them over to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets:
“‘Did you bring to me slain beasts and sacrifices,
during the forty years in the wilderness, O house of Israel?
43 You took up the tent of Moloch
and the star of your god Rephan,
the images that you made to worship;
and I will send you into exile beyond Babylon.’
44 “Our fathers had the tent of witness in the wilderness, just as he who spoke to Moses directed him to make it, according to the pattern that he had seen. 45 Our fathers in turn brought it in with Yehoshua when they dispossessed the nations that God drove out before our fathers. So it was until the days of David, 46 who found favor in the sight of God and asked to find a dwelling place for the God of Ya’akov. 47 But it was Solomon who built a house for him. 48 Yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made by hands, as the prophet says,
49 “‘Heaven is my throne,
and the earth is my footstool.
What kind of house will you build for me, says the Lord,
or what is the place of my rest?
50 Did not my hand make all these things?’
51 “You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so do you. 52 Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whom you have now betrayed and murdered, 53 you who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it.”

▸ Psalms 81:6-16
6 “I relieved your shoulder of the burden;
your hands were freed from the basket.
7 In distress you called, and I delivered you;
I answered you in the secret place of thunder;
I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah
8 Hear, O my people, while I admonish you!
O Israel, if you would but listen to me!
9 There shall be no strange god among you;
you shall not bow down to a foreign god.
10 I am YHWH your God,
who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.
11 “But my people did not listen to my voice;
Israel would not submit to me.
12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts,
to follow their own counsels.
13 Oh, that my people would listen to me,
that Israel would walk in my ways!
14 I would soon subdue their enemies
and turn my hand against their foes.
15 Those who hate YHWH would cringe toward him,
and their fate would last forever.
16 But he would feed you with the finest of the wheat,
and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
▸ Ezekiel 20:33-44
33 “As I live, declares the Lord YHWH, surely with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and with wrath poured out I will be king over you. 34 I will bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you are scattered, with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, and with wrath poured out. 35 And I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there I will enter into judgment with you face to face. 36 As I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so I will enter into judgment with you, declares the Lord YHWH. 37 I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant. 38 I will purge out the rebels from among you, and those who transgress against me. I will bring them out of the land where they sojourn, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am Yahovah.
39 “As for you, O house of Israel, thus says the Lord YHWH: Go serve every one of you his idols, now and hereafter, if you will not listen to me; but my holy name you shall no more profane with your gifts and your idols.
40 “For on my holy mountain, the mountain height of Israel, declares the Lord YHWH, there all the house of Israel, all of them, shall serve me in the land. There I will accept them, and there I will require your contributions and the choicest of your gifts, with all your sacred offerings. 41 As a pleasing aroma I will accept you, when I bring you out from the peoples and gather you out of the countries where you have been scattered. And I will manifest my holiness among you in the sight of the nations. 42 And you shall know that I am Yahovah, when I bring you into the land of Israel, the country that I swore to give to your fathers. 43 And there you shall remember your ways and all your deeds with which you have defiled yourselves, and you shall loathe yourselves for all the evils that you have committed. 44 And you shall know that I am Yahovah, when I deal with you for my name’s sake, not according to your evil ways, nor according to your corrupt deeds, O house of Israel, declares the Lord YHWH.”
▸ Deuteronomy 4:12-20
12 Then YHWH spoke to you from the midst of the fire; you heard the sound of words, but you saw no form—only a voice. 13 So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, that is, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone. 14 YHWH commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, that you might perform them in the land where you are going over to possess it.
15 “So watch yourselves carefully, since you did not see any form on the day YHWH spoke to you at Horeb from the midst of the fire, 16 so that you do not act corruptly and make a graven image for yourselves in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, 17 the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the sky, 18 the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water below the earth. 19 And beware not to lift up your eyes to heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and be drawn away and worship them and serve them, those which YHWH your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven. 20 But YHWH has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace, from Egypt, to be a people for His own possession, as today.
▸ 2 Kings 17:12-20
12 They served idols, concerning which YHWH had said to them, “You shall not do this thing.” 13 Yet YHWH warned Israel and Yehudah through all His prophets and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways and keep My commandments, My statutes according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you through My servants the prophets.” 14 However, they did not listen, but stiffened their neck like their fathers, who did not believe in YHWH their God. 15 They rejected His statutes and His covenant which He made with their fathers and His warnings with which He warned them. And they followed vanity and became vain, and went after the nations which surrounded them, concerning which YHWH had commanded them not to do like them. 16 They forsook all the commandments of YHWH their God and made for themselves molten images, even two calves, and made an Asherah and worshiped all the host of heaven and served Baal (lord). 17 Then they made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire, and practiced divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of YHWH, provoking Him. 18 So YHWH was very angry with Israel and removed them from His sight; none was left except the tribe of Yehudah.
19 Also Yehudah did not keep the commandments of YHWH their God, but walked in the customs which Israel had introduced. 20 YHWH rejected all the descendants of Israel and afflicted them and gave them into the hand of plunderers, until He had cast them out of His sight.
▸ 2 Kings 21:1-6
1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Yerushalayim; and his mother’s name was Hephzibah. 2 He did evil in the sight of YHWH, according to the abominations of the nations whom YHWH dispossessed before the sons of Israel. 3 For he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he erected altars for Baal and made an Asherah, as Ahab king of Israel had done, and worshiped all the host of heaven and served them. 4 He built altars in the house of YHWH, of which YHWH had said, “In Yerushalayim I will put My name.” 5 For he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of YHWH. 6 He made his son pass through the fire, practiced witchcraft and used divination, and dealt with mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the sight of YHWH provoking Him to anger.
▸ 2 Kings 23:4-8
4 Then the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest and the priests of the second order and the doorkeepers, to bring out of the temple of YHWH all the vessels that were made for Baal, for Asherah, and for all the host of heaven; and he burned them outside Yerushalayim in the fields of the Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel. 5 He did away with the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Yehudah had appointed to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Yehudah and in the surrounding area of Yerushalayim, also those who burned incense to Baal (lord), to the sun and to the moon and to the constellations and to all the host of heaven. 6 He brought out the Asherah from the house of YHWH outside Yerushalayim to the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and ground it to dust, and threw its dust on the graves of the common people. 7 He also broke down the houses of the male cult prostitutes which were in the house of YHWH, where the women were weaving hangings for the Asherah. 8 Then he brought all the priests from the cities of Yehudah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba; and he broke down the high places of the gates which were at the entrance of the gate of Yehoshua the governor of the city, which were on one’s left at the city gate.
▸ Jeremiah 19:10-15
10 “Then you are to break the jar in the sight of the men who accompany you 11 and say to them, ‘Thus says YHWH of hosts, “Just so will I break this people and this city, even as one breaks a potter’s vessel, which cannot again be repaired; and they will bury in Topheth because there is no other place for burial. 12 This is how I will treat this place and its inhabitants,” declares YHWH, “so as to make this city like Topheth. 13 The houses of Yerushalayim and the houses of the kings of Yehudah will be defiled like the place Topheth, because of all the houses on whose rooftops they burned sacrifices to all the heavenly host and poured out drink offerings to other gods.”’”
14 Then Yermiyahu/Jeremiah came from Topheth, where YHWH had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of YHWH’s house and said to all the people: 15 “Thus says YHWH of hosts, the God of Israel, ‘Behold, I am about to bring on this city and all its towns the entire calamity that I have declared against it, because they have stiffened their necks so as not to heed My words.’”
▸ Zephaniah 1:2-6
2 “I will completely remove all things
From the face of the earth,” declares YHWH.
3 “I will remove man and beast;
I will remove the birds of the sky
And the fish of the sea,
And the ruins along with the wicked;
And I will cut off man from the face of the earth,” declares YHWH.
4 “So I will stretch out My hand against Yehudah
And against all the inhabitants of Yerushalayim.
And I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place,
And the names of the idolatrous priests along with the priests.
5 “And those who bow down on the housetops to the host of heaven,
And those who bow down and swear to YHWH and yet swear by Milcom,
6 And those who have turned back from following YHWH,
And those who have not sought YHWH or inquired of Him.”
Note Milcom is the name of a pagan god, but is identical with “their king” in Hebrew.
▸ Amos 5:21-27
21 “I hate, I reject your festivals,
Nor do I delight in your solemn assemblies.
22 “Even though you offer up to Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings,
I will not accept them;
And I will not even look at the peace offerings of your fatlings.
23 “Take away from Me the noise of your songs;
I will not even listen to the sound of your harps.
24 “But let justice roll down like waters
And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.
25 “Did you present Me with sacrifices and grain offerings in the wilderness for forty years, O house of Israel? 26 You also carried along Sikkuth your king and Kiyyun, your images, the star of your gods which you made for yourselves. 27 Therefore, I will make you go into exile beyond Damascus,” says YHWH, whose name is the God of hosts.

19 Then Yehoshua said to the people, “You will not be able to serve YHWH, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God; He will not forgive your transgression or your sins. 20 If you forsake YHWH and serve foreign gods, then He will turn and do you harm and consume you after He has done good to you.” 21 The people said to Yehoshua, “No, but we will serve YYHWH.” 22 Yehoshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen for yourselves YHWH, to serve Him.” And they said, “We are witnesses.”
▸ Isaiah 63:7-14
7 I shall make mention of the lovingkindnesses of YHWH the praises of YHWH,
According to all that YHWH has granted us,
And the great goodness toward the house of Israel,
Which He has granted them according to His compassion
And according to the abundance of His lovingkindnesses.
8 For He said, “Surely, they are My people,
Sons who will not deal falsely.”
So He became their Savior.
9 In all their affliction He was afflicted,
And the angel of His presence saved them;
In His love and in His mercy He redeemed them,
And He lifted them and carried them all the days of old.
10 But they rebelled
And grieved His Holy Spirit;
Therefore He turned Himself to become their enemy,
He fought against them.
11 Then His people remembered the days of old, of Moshe.
Where is He who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of His flock?
Where is He who put His Holy Spirit in the midst of them,
12 Who caused His glorious arm to go at the right hand of Moshe,
Who divided the waters before them to make for Himself an everlasting name,
13 Who led them through the depths?
Like the horse in the wilderness, they did not stumble;
14 As the cattle which go down into the valley,
The Spirit of YHWH gave them rest.
So You led Your people,
To make for Yourself a glorious name.

1 Kings 11:7-12
7 Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites, on the mountain east of Yerushalayim. 8 And so he did for all his foreign wives, who made offerings and sacrificed to their gods.
9 And YHWH was angry with Shlomo/Solomon, because his heart had turned away from YHWH, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice 10 and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods. But he did not keep what YHWH commanded. 11 Therefore YHWH said to Shlomo, “Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant. 12 Yet for the sake of David your father I will not do it in your days, but I will tear it out of the hand of your son.

Joshua 3:14-17
14 So when the people set out from their tents to pass over the Yarden with the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people, 15 and as soon as those bearing the ark had come as far as the Yarden, and the feet of the priests bearing the ark were dipped in the brink of the water (now the Yarden overflows all its banks throughout the time of harvest), 16 the waters coming down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far away, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, and those flowing down toward the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off. And the people passed over opposite Jericho/Yeryicho. 17 Now the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of YHWH stood firmly on dry ground in the midst of the Yarden, and all Israel was passing over on dry ground until all the nation finished passing over the Yarden.
▸ Numbers 32:5-18
5 And they said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Do not take us across the Yarden.”
6 But Moshe said to the people of Gad and to the people of Reuben, “Shall your brothers go to the war while you sit here? 7 Why will you discourage the heart of the people of Israel from going over into the land that YHWH has given them? 8 Your fathers did this, when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land. 9 For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the people of Israel from going into the land that YHWH had given them. 10 And YHWH’s anger was kindled on that day, and he swore, saying, 11 ‘Surely none of the men who came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land that I swore to give to Abraham, to Yitzchak, and to Ya’akov, because they have not wholly followed me, 12 none except Caleb the son of Yephunneh the Kenizzite and Yehoshua the son of Nun, for they have wholly followed YHWH.’ 13 And YHWH’s anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of YHWH was gone. 14 And behold, you have risen in your fathers’ place, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more the fierce anger of YHWH against Israel! 15 For if you turn away from following him, he will again abandon them in the wilderness, and you will destroy all this people.”
16 Then they came near to him and said, “We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock, and cities for our little ones, 17 but we will take up arms, ready to go before the people of Israel, until we have brought them to their place. And our little ones shall live in the fortified cities because of the inhabitants of the land. 18 We will not return to our homes until each of the people of Israel has gained his inheritance.
▸ Deuteronomy 32:48-52
48 That very day YHWH spoke to Moshe, 49 “Go up this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, opposite Yeryicho, and view the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the people of Israel for a possession. 50 And die on the mountain which you go up, and be gathered to your people, as Aharon your brother died in Mount Hor and was gathered to his people, 51 because you broke faith with me in the midst of the people of Israel at the waters of Meribah-kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin, and because you did not treat me as holy in the midst of the people of Israel. 52 For you shall see the land before you, but you shall not go there, into the land that I am giving to the people of Israel.”
▸ Joshua 3:5-17
5 Then Yehoshua said to the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow YHWH will do wonders among you.” 6 And Yehoshua said to the priests, “Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on before the people.” So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people.
7 YHWH said to Yehoshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moshe, so I will be with you. 8 And as for you, command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, ‘When you come to the brink of the waters of the Yarden, you shall stand still in the Yarden’” 9 And Joshua said to the people of Israel, “Come here and listen to the words of YHWH your God.” 10 And Yehoshua said, “Here is how you shall know that the living God is among you and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites. 11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord (h0113. אָדוֹן ’âḏôn) of all the earth is passing over before you into the Yarden. 12 Now therefore take twelve men from the tribes of Israel, from each tribe a man. 13 And when the soles of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of YHWH, the Lord (h0113. אָדוֹן ’âḏôn) of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Yarden, the waters of the Yarden shall be cut off from flowing, and the waters coming down from above shall stand in one heap.”
▸ Joshua 23:6-16
6 Therefore, be very strong to keep and to do all that is written in the Book of the Torah/teaching of Moshe, turning aside from it neither to the right hand nor to the left, 7 that you may not mix with these nations remaining among you or make mention of the names of their gods or swear by them or serve them or bow down to them, 8 but you shall cling to YHWH your God just as you have done to this day. 9 For YHWH has driven out before you great and strong nations. And as for you, no man has been able to stand before you to this day. 10 One man of you puts to flight a thousand, since it is YHWH your God who fights for you, just as he promised you. 11 Be very careful, therefore, to love YHWH your God. 12 For if you turn back and cling to the remnant of these nations remaining among you and make marriages with them, so that you associate with them and they with you, 13 know for certain that YHWH your God will no longer drive out these nations before you, but they shall be a snare and a trap for you, a whip on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from off this good ground that YHWH your God has given you.
14 “And now I am about to go the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things that YHWH your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed. 15 But just as all the good things that YHWH your God promised concerning you have been fulfilled for you, so YHWH will bring upon you all the evil things, until he has destroyed you from off this good land that YHWH your God has given you, 16 if you transgress the covenant of YHWH your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them. Then the anger of YHWH will be kindled against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land that he has given to you.”
▸ Joshua 24:14-26
Choose Whom You Will Serve
14 “Now therefore fear YHWH and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve YHWH. 15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve YHWH, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve YHWH.”
16 Then the people answered, “Far be it from us that we should forsake YHWH to serve other gods, 17 for it is YHWH our God who brought us and our fathers up from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and who did those great signs in our sight and preserved us in all the way that we went, and among all the peoples through whom we passed. 18 And YHWH drove out before us all the peoples, the Amorites who lived in the land. Therefore we also will serve YHWH, for he is our God.”
19 But Yehoshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve YHWH, for he is a holy God. He is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins. 20 If you forsake YHWH and serve foreign gods, then he will turn and do you harm and consume you, after having done you good.” 21 And the people said to Yehoshua, “No, but we will serve YHWH.” 22 Then Yehoshua said to the people, “You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen YHWH, to serve him.” And they said, “We are witnesses.” 23 He said, “Then put away the foreign gods that are among you, and incline your heart to YHWH, the God of Israel.” 24 And the people said to Yehoshua, “YHWH our God we will serve, and his voice we will obey.” 25 So Yehoshua made a covenant with the people that day, and put in place statutes and rules for them at Shechem. 26 And Yehoshua wrote these words in the Book of the Torah of God. And he took a large stone and set it up there under the terebinth that was by the sanctuary of YHWH.
▸ 2 Chronicles 20:5-9
5 And Yehoshafat stood in the assembly of Yehudah and Yerushalayim, in the house of YHWH, before the new court, 6 and said, “O YHWH, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you. 7 Did you not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend? 8 And they have lived in it and have built for you in it a sanctuary for your name, saying, 9 ‘If disaster comes upon us, the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before you—for your name is in this house—and cry out to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.’

1 Now when the king lived in his house and YHWH had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, 2 the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent.” 3 And Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for YHWH is with you.”
4 But that same night the word of YHWH came to Nathan, 5 “Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says YHWH: Would you build me a house to dwell in? 6 I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent for my dwelling. 7 In all places where I have moved with all the people of Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, “Why have you not built me a house of cedar?”’ 8 Now, therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David, ‘Thus says YHWH of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel. 9 And I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. 12 Then Solomon said, “YHWH has said that he would dwell in thick darkness. 13 I have indeed built you an exalted house, a place for you to dwell in forever.” 14 Then the king turned around and blessed all the assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel stood. 15 And he said, “Blessed be YHWH, the God of Israel, who with his hand has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to David my father, saying, 16 ‘Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel in which to build a house, that my name might be there. But I chose David to be over my people Israel.’ 17 Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of YHWH, the God of Israel. 18 But YHWH said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart. 19 Nevertheless, you shall not build the house, but your son who shall be born to you shall build the house for my name.’ 20 Now YHWH has fulfilled his promise that he made. 11 “Now, my son, YHWH be with you, so that you may succeed in building the house of Yahovah your God, as he has spoken concerning you. 12 Only, may YHWH grant you discretion and understanding, that when he gives you charge over Israel you may keep the law of YHWH your God. 13 Then you will prosper if you are careful to observe the statutes and the rules that YHWH commanded Moshe for Israel. 1 Remember, O YHWH, in David’s favor,
all the hardships he endured,
2 how he swore to YHWH
and vowed to the Mighty One of Ya’akov,
3 “I will not enter my house
or get into my bed,
4 I will not give sleep to my eyes
or slumber to my eyelids,
5 until I find a place for YHWH,
a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Ya’akov.”
6 Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah;
we found it in the fields of Ya’ar.
7 “Let us go to his dwelling place;
let us worship at his footstool!”
8 Arise, O YHWH, and go to your resting place,
you and the ark of your might.
9 Let your priests be clothed with righteousness,
and let your saints shout for joy.
10 For the sake of your servant David,
do not turn away the face of your anointed one.

And he made side chambers all around. 6 The lowest story was five cubits broad, the middle one was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad. For around the outside of the house he made offsets on the wall in order that the supporting beams should not be inserted into the walls of the house.

11 But Moshe implored YHWH his God and said, “O YHWH, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? 12 Why should the Egyptians say, ‘With evil intent did he bring them out, to kill them in the mountains and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from your burning anger and relent from this disaster against your people. 13 Remember Abraham, Yitzchak, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have promised I will give to your offspring, and they shall inherit it forever.’” 14 And YHWH relented from the disaster that he had spoken of bringing on his people.
